Anne McDermid & Associates - About

Anne McDermid founded this agency in Toronto in January 1996. She had previously been a senior partner in the distinguished British agency Curtis Brown for several years. The agency represents literary novelists and commercial novelists of high quality, and also writers of non-fiction in the areas of memoir, biography, history, literary travel, narrative science, and investigative journalism. We also represent a certain number of children's and YA writers and writers in the fields of science fiction and fantasy. We find that our newer clients are interested in pursuing markets via the Internet as well as through the traditional publishing methods, and so we are active in advising our clients to use websites, blogs, and other various visual material. The agency also includes associate agents Martha Magor Webb, Monica Pacheco and Chris Bucci.
Our clients include Michael Crummey, Peter Darbyshire, Camilla Gibb, Greg Hollingshead, Vincent Lam, Pasha Malla, Andrew Pyper, Nino Ricci, David Adams Richards, Russell Smith, and Michael Winter. Our writers have been nominees and winners of many literary prizes including the Governor General’s Award, the Giller Prize, the Charles Taylor Prize for narrative non-fiction, the Orange Prize, the Danuta Gleed Award, and the Commonwealth Prize.
We sell Canadian and American rights directly but use our rights associate for UK and translation rights. For more info on our rights associate, click here. We also use associates for film and television rights in Canada and internationally.
